The Yiewsley & West Drayton Town Centre Action Group, in conjunction with other groups, will be holding a series of Summer Events to coincide with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee; the 200th Anniversary of Charles Dickens and the Olympics.
The festival is a first for the area and will start on 26th May with a Jubilee Flower Festival by the local churches at St. Martin’s Church. The event will include a Summer Fete and Songs of Praise.
On the 7th June there will be a Well-being and Tea Dance Event at Cherry Lane School this is one of several events for older people being organised by Hillingdon Council.
A Jubilee Carnival in the Park will be held on 9th June at Yiewsley Recreation Ground.
The carnival will include a concert by the Yiewsley and West Drayton Silver Band.
The opening events will coincide with the Southlands Summer Art Exhibition.
Other planned events are:
Music & Dance – 16th June at Cherry Lane School;
International Food Festival – 4th to 6th July at Stockley Academy;
production of a Charles Dickens novel by Outline Theatre
and an Arts & Craft Fayre – 14th/15th July at Southlands;
Canoe Event on the Grand Union Canal, organised by Thames 21 and Jazz on the Boat – 22nd July.
It is anticipated that further events will be added such as: a Film & Book Festival; Wine Tasting; Classical Music in the Park; Sports Event; Heritage Roadshow and Walks. If any group/organisation would like to participate in the festival please contact: johnashhurst@aol.com
