In 2008 the Town Centre Action Group decided on six projects to help enliven the High Street. In 2008 Yiewsley was deemed the UK's most recession-affected high street by the British Property Foundation. For some time the Town Centre Action Group had been working with partners to uplift the central shopping area of Yiewsley to create a really attractive place. Read about Hillingdon Council's plans to create a flagship townscape for Yiewsley, in partnership with Transport for London.
Progresss
As well as the Yiewsley Piazza TCAG wanted to smarten the public spaces in West Drayton including the development of the area opposite Swan Road, so that restaurants had the space to offer al fresco dining.
Our canal is unique, the heart of our town and steeped in history. TCAG want to make our beautiful waterway a prominent feature in local life. Unbelievably, some people dont even know it is there!
Keystreets
As part of the initiative to develop the canal TCAG wanted to make the canal more visible from street level. We challenged Hillingdon Borough Council to help find a solution and help improve the surrounding area and help attract new shops. The Council's iconic response has a real wow factor.
The rail bridge is an important link between Yiewsley and West Drayton. But its not great at the moment, Read about Hillingdon Borough Council's partnership with Network Rail to make the West Drayton rail bridge a better place.
Our train station was the first stop in Brunel's historic London to Bristol railway.
It is a key public space that unites those that live, work and play here. It is a unique opportunity - here is the plan to make it amazing.
