Key House was opened in 1930 to house the former Yiewsley and West Drayton Urban District Council, and was used by the Council until the 1980’s.
By the end of the twentieth century the building was falling in to disrepair.
With the support of Hillingdon Council, the regeneration fund, and the London Development Agency, Key House was bought by an independent trust –(whose website can be viewed at: www.keyhousetrust.org.uk).
The building houses a number of vital community functions, including the Hillingdon Association of Voluntary Services, whose website can be found at: www.havs.org.uk.
A two-storey extension and extensive refurbishment was completed by the reopening in the Spring of 2003. Thanks to a National Lottery Grant the building is well equipped and furnished.
The former Council Chamber has been converted into a training and meeting place and is known as The Derek Stobbs Room. The room has all the modern equipment such as wireless internet which is available for hire.
A lift has been installed to provide access to all floors and there are‘hot desks’ available for hire.
The much needed upgrade has provided a modern, vital facility for the local community, and is the venue for many community functions including meetings of the Yiewsley and West DraytonTown Centre Action Group.
