The town centre action group have long campaigned for enhancements to this key space and we are delighted to share Hillingdon Borough Council's proposal. The images below show the basic layout for four diamond shapes with new trees, which would be uplit from pavement mounted LEDs. The area will include planters for flowers (not shown here) and attractive new hardstanding designs.
We think this proposal would be a great improvement and would help make the main shopping an attractive place and welcoming place. Let us know what you think in the comment box below.
The Town Centre Action Group is interested in your views on this development. We have agreed to forward any comments on to Hillingdon Borough Council, who will be working to reslise this project on behalf of the community.
If you are interested in the information on this page please read also about planned improvements to the Yiewsley canal bridge (Colham Bridge), the West Drayton rail bridge and the general plans for improving access to the canal - and to bolster activities on it.
This first image shows the planned new works from the air.
There would be four new "diamond" in the area from Dades to the Red Cow pub.
Hillingdon Borough Council have also presented another option, which would create a minor chicane in the road by the piazza. There would in effect be a piazza on both sides of the street with two sets of four diamonds. We think this is an interesting idea - you can download and view the option below.
Tall overhead of the overall scheme.
This side view shows the aaproach from Cowley. The current green bollards will be removed and pavings improved to create a simpler, cleaner, feel.
This view does not show the planters tha the council have agreed to introduce to help bring more colour into the area. The uplighters will be introduced at the bases to the trees - we await the technical detail from the council.
This front elevation shows the bus stop area.
This overhead details the brickwork more clearly, showing the inlaid areas in detail.
Another overhead perspective.
Ground level this time - again, the planters and uplighter details to follow.
An overhead perspective from inside a diamond, showing the intimacy of the sourroundings.
More detail from inside one of the diamonds, showing groundwork detail.

looks gr8 if we can achieve whats said,i guess the pub and shops need to be removed shifting them else where to give the piazza a cleaner and tidy look and fell.
Still waiting for this sleek inviting shopping environment!!
Walking down the canal towards Cowley on Saturday I could believe I was in the middle of the country. Walking home up the Cowley road and through the town, reality hits!! We're still the dumping ground of the borough, grotty shops, stained pavements rubbish strewn everywhere, new homes being built on every available space!!
This looks like a great idea but the red cow pub always has people drinking and sitting around on benches and boxes are left outside shops !!!
Also the shops have very bright lights and makes the high street look tacki !!! :/ There should be a certain high street policy and it would be a good idea to make the road a bit biger and have more serious parking rules as it is going to be murder when the new tescos opens :)
One significant omission from these images, and hopefully an intended one, is the plastic boxes etc outside the shop fronts.
This looks really great, only please can they ensure there is a no public drinking policy/sign near the benches to avoid drinking/sleeping on the benches. Thanks for sharing with us x
The enhancements look lovely. Unfortunately, until shops are prevented from displaying their wares outside, spilling on to the street, this sleek tidy look will not be achieved. It is demoralising to live in an area where coloured plastic boxes and other cheap items are piled high on the pavement and gaudy fast food outlets are in abundance.
